The conference theme was “Who Confides, Wins: Rallying at Our Lady’s Feet for Her Triumph.” It could not have been more apropos as participants stood up to welcome the International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima that unexpectedly visited the event.

Tradition, Family, Property—Louisiana held its 2018 Regional Conference at its headquarters in Lafayette, Louisiana on February 17. Over 80 friends and supporters came from throughout the state and neighboring Texas. The honored guest, of course, was the Blessed Mother as represented by her pilgrim statue.

The TFP’s Return to Order campaign was especially featured at the event with the talk of author John Horvat II. In light of his book he delivered an update of the national situation titled “The State of Our Grand Return to Order.” He used the book’s metaphor of society as a cruise ship to explain “the new phase in the old culture war against all things Western and Christian.”

Speaker James Bascom, who works at the TFP’s Washington Bureau, presented his talk, “The Spirit of Hollywood vs. The Spirit of the Cross.” Citing commentaries of TFP founder Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira, Mr. Bascom stressed the need to be friends of the Cross as the best way to carry out the counter-revolutionary fight. TFP member Ben Broussard, a Louisiana native, delivered the excellent talk, “Resistance is Fidelity, Not Rebellion.” Mr. Broussard recalled examples from Church history of those who have faithfully resisted the promoters of bad doctrine and customs.

Local TFP supporter Marie Sallinger presented an invitation for the ladies in the audience to participate in Lady Day. Promoted by the Return to Order campaign, Lady Day asks ladies nationwide to visit a Marian shrine and to get together with other ladies to celebrate the purity and goodness of true womanhood on March 8. The date is meant to answer with elegance the vulgar commemoration of International Woman’s Day by feminists. The proposal was met with much interest by ladies that hope to organize local events.

Elias Bartel, who was the master of ceremonies, presented an impressive summary of TFP activities in 2017. He was also pleased to announce the coming expansion of TFP-Louisiana with a new center in New Orleans.

The well-organized event was full of opportunities to meet new friends and old. There were plenty of refreshments, much conversation and an optional wine and cheese get-together after the talks. Everyone was happy that they had confided and come to the conference. They were rewarded with an opportunity to pray before Our Lady’s statue for all their future actions for her cause.
