Tens of thousands of concerned Americans are protesting a program for elementary school children called the “After School Satan Club” (ASSC). The project is promoted by a group called The Satanic Temple, which has targeted ten school districts from across the nation.
Tragically, three districts have accepted the satanic clubs, while the others are threatened with lawsuits if they refuse. In response, the award-winning book Return to Order’s web site (www.returntoorder.org) has joined with others who are gathering signatures to protest the clubs. In less than three months, the site has collected over 67,000 signatures, far beyond its original goal of three thousand.
According to The Satanic Temple, the clubs will instill in children the idea that many of those things Christians see as sinful can be performed “without repercussions.”[1] Children will be taught that they can become “moral and responsible people”[2] without fear of God’s judgment.

“The program seeks to eliminate the truth that God is offended by sin, and that sin is punished in this life or the next,” said Return to Order author John Horvat. “By eliminating the notion of the consequence of bad acts, the program undermines the foundation for order so needed in America today.”
Satanic activity has grown over the last few years. Satanist groups are holding high-profile events such as Oklahoma City’s Black Mass held last August 15 that offended many Catholics and sparked protests. They are also taking legal action against Christian monuments such as the Ten Commandments displays. Such efforts are seen as a means of mainstreaming Satanism in an effort to make it more acceptable to the public.
While the signatures are growing, so are the repercussions. Return to Order subscribers write:
“Satanism is just the first step toward eliminating religion in our country and around the world. We must stop this terrible menace to our children: Satanism is the negation of goodness and righteousness!”
“As a pupil at Catholic schools I was well warned of the cunning wiles of Satan and his abilities to use friends or neighbors to tempt you into sin. I think that children cannot fight an enemy they know nothing of. We warn them of the dangers or fire, water, traffic, ice covered ponds, pedophiles, perverts, even apparently ‘nice’ strangers. Why withhold the knowledge of the Devil?”
“The only way we can hope to fight Satan is by having more Rosary Rallies so he can be driven down. I was shocked to hear on the news this morning that a court ruled for a Satan club to be approved in an elementary school in Oregon.”
“To counter the growing influence of Satanism in America and all over the world, we need to turn to our Lord by going on our knees, seek His Presence, attending Mass, receiving the Eucharist every day, in humility ask for forgiveness and we pray to our Beloved Mother Mary to intercede for us.”
“Parents who allow their kids to engage into an environment with satanic purposes are already corrupt. The idea is to convince school administrators that this type of organization may not be beneficial to the entire school and faculty. Parents make the difference if they speak out in numbers.”
“Familiarize the faithful with the prayer, ‘Saint Michael the archangel, defend us in battle, be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil…’ Encourage public recitation of it. This prayer was always said at the end of Mass…It brings the reality of Satan to mind at very least!”
“Priests need to speak out against evil and admit the devil is real. They need to recite the Saint Michael prayer after ALL Masses.”
“Instead of trying to counter, I believe we should be the aggressor. We should pick up our weapons, (the Holy Rosary) and charge with the Mother of God as our leader. The gates of hell shall not prevail against the mighty army of God’s faithful.”
Such reactions against Satanism are encouraging since it shows many are intent upon fighting against this grave evil in America. The key to this fight is to not to abandon the field but to go forward. As one reader wrote:
“Not to oppose error is to approve it; and not to defend truth is to suppress it; and indeed to neglect to confound evil men, when we can do it, is no less a sin than to encourage them.”—Pope Saint Felix III
